CHRISTMAS IN JULY 2010
FRIDAY OPEN STUDIO
July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. This “no host” studio is for artists of all mediums. Spend the afternoon in our brightly lit classroom with the benefit of good company and a great place to work. Open 1:00-4:00 every Friday. Free to members. $3/day or $10/month for non-members. No registration required.

WOODCARVING WORKSHOP
July 5, 12, 19-taught by Master Woodcarver DAVE DISSELBRETT. Dave’s Christmas Special is a Tall Santa carved by you! Used as a gift in the Christmas Stocking or reserved for a special place on the mantle during the holidays, this Santa will be a winner. Dave will help you step- by-step. Monday evenings. 7:00-9:00. $5/class.

A BEAUTIFUL EMBOSSED CHRISTMAS CARD
July 7-taught by JAN CASTLE. Students will emboss a seasonally appropriate image, color with iridescent paint, and cut small pieces to create a card pretty enough to put into a frame. Jan won First Place and Special Recognition Awards for her embossed Christmas cards at the Oregon State Fair. She will happily share her secrets. Small supply list. Wednesday, 1:00-3:00. $25.*

WOODCARVING WORKSHOP
July 11-taught by Master Woodcarver DAVE DISSELBRETT. Carve a Tall Santa in this special Christmas class. Bring a lunch and carve the day away in our friendly classroom. All Santas will be your own creation and one-of-a-kind. A head start on the holiday season! Sunday, 9:00-3:00.

FATHER CHRISTMAS FIGURES
July 15-taught by PAT DOMOGALLA. In this Father Christmas class you will create a one-of-a-king keepsake. Pat will create the lifelike polymer clay head and hands for you, which are all original and different. She will then teach you how to prepare the armature, make the clothing, attach hair to the face and head, and choose three different variations for hats and bags. Prospective students can check out her website: www.pdchristmascreations.com. If you want to take the class but don’t sew, Pat can work that out for you. Supply list. Thursday, 9:30-4:30. $40 to KAA and $30 to Pat for the Father Christmas Kit. The kit includes the armature, head and hands, pattern, and beard and head hair.*

PLEIN AIR PAINTING AND DRAWING
JULY 15-hosted by JEANIE BAKER. This month’s painting site is the Lavender Lake Farms, Independence, OR. The 12 acres of lavender will be at their height of display and aroma. This is an absolutely gorgeous place to paint and draw. The farm also offers a lavender retail store featuring handmade lavender products and plants for sale. In July they will be harvesting the flowers and distilling. A U-pick field will also be open. Jeanie will meet you at 10:00 at the farm. For directions: www.lavenderlakefarms.com. CHRISTMAS COLLAGE
July 17-taught by KC HANCOCK. KC will teach the process of using acrylic medium as well as design elements. With this collage method the student will work with images and papers that can be used for cards or other surfaces like gift boxes, etc. KC will show you how to create a work of art and then make quality copies that can be applied to card stock to make many greeting cards. Supply list. 9:00-5:00. Class price to be determined.*

POINTSETTIA PAINTING PARTY
July 24-taught by PATRICIA SCHMIDT. Please join Patty to celebrate the beautiful Pointsettia with a painting party! Learn how to create brilliant dark red to dark green shadows with watercolor under-painting techniques, using strong value contrast for the illusion of glowing sunlight. Then you will add an accent of “gold” behind the flower center. By the end of the day, you will have a “work-in-progress” with all the information needed to complete your painting. All levels of painting experience welcome! Bring a lunch or visit a nearby eatery. Supply list. Saturday, 10:00-4:00. $70 (Poinsettia photo and drawing provided)*

SNOWFLAKES IN JULY
July 31-taught by MAUREEN FRANK, the Mandala Lady. Make fun and easy Snowflake Ornaments. Using a simple grid system, Maureen will show you how easy it is to draw all kinds of snowflakes. Then you’ll take your snowflakes, attach them to old CD’s and decorate them. It’s like making Christmas cookies, but without all the fat and calories. Supply list. Saturday, 9:00-1:00. $25.*
