April 3-May 22-COLORED PENCIL CLASS taught by accomplished colored pencil artists
Guest artists for Spring Term are Pat Averill and Terri Neal. Always interesting, always something new and always fun. This class has been ongoing for a number of years and is welcome to beginners through advanced students interested in the wonderful and versatile world of colored pencils. You do not need to be a free hand artist or an accomplished artist to create works of art in this class. April 3-24-ACRYLICS taught by SHIRLEE JOHNSON
Accomplished artist Shirlee Johnson will show you how to prepare your canvas for painting and underpainting, for value, lost and found edges, cool and warm colors, composition and glazing, and working with shapes and designs to make the eye move around the painting. Shirlee has an art background from Pierce Jr. College in Woodland Hills, CA where she studied drawing, design and life drawing; Art Masterʼs School in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she studied color, composition, acrylics, oils, and pastels. April 4-May 23-CALLIGRAPHY taught by PENNY WHITE
Calligraphy is the art of beautiful writing and Penny is an expert. In the Fall Calligraphy class students painted background papers to be used in future classes. These papers can be used in Winter and Spring Term classes. Even if you weren’t in the Fall class you are welcome to join this artistic group of writers. April 5, 19, 26-DRAWING and PAINTING CLASS combined taught by STEVE KLEIER
Some people want to draw for its own sake, others to improve their painting. This class is good for both because you will learn principles of drawing that can be used on their own orapplied to painting. In April students will begin lessons about drawing and painting the human head. Steve sends out an email with reference photos before each class. Supply
List: Sketchbook, drawing pencils, (about a 6b), kneaded eraser, medium hardness charcoal, a good size newsprint pad, drawing board and clips. All media (Oils, Watercolor, Acrylic) welcome. Please bring the supplies you have and the colors you enjoy using but include canvas or paper, a palette or tray, sketchbook and medium soft pencil or graphite stick, brushes, spray bottle. April 20, 27-WATERCOLOR with PEN and INK taught by ANGELA WRAHTZ, award winning artist
No experience needed. Beginning to advanced techniques taught. Classes are project-based including a broad range of approaches from realistic to imaginative/abstract. Projects provided or bring your own. Lots of demos, resources, and step-by-step instruction. Instructor will bring everything you need to complete projects for use in class. Please bring your own watercolor brushes (round 6 and 10 and 1” flat wash are great) and bring your favorite pens if you have some you love. This “no host” studio is for artists of all mediums. Spend the afternoon in our brightly lit classroom with the benefit of good company and a pleasant place to work. Make a cup ofcoffee or tea and enjoy our extensive Lending Library and the Enid Joy Mount Gallery for inspiration. Open 1:00-4:00pm every Friday. Free to members. $3/day or $10/month for non-members. No registration required.
*Please sign up at least one week ahead for these classes so the instructors can prepare for the correct number of students. Ages 14 and above can register for adult classes.
** Refunds will be given to students if a class is cancelled. If a student registers and pays for a class and cannot attend we will gladly forward your payment to a future class.
