October 2-November 20-COLORED PENCIL CLASS taught by various talented artists
In this 8 week class you will learn color theory, layering, strokes, use of paper and tools, dry pencil, watercolor pencil and much more. These classes show the student how much fun it is to learn new techniques and stretch your expertise.
One of our featured instructors is Donna Graham teaching two classes: “From Ordinary to Extraordinary with Black and White and Gray Pencils”. In this class you will learn to isolate elements from a photo and make them the focus of a drawing using the basic principles of composition.
Ball and Mitt by Donna Graham
Donna Lee is our second featured instructor teaching two classes on the art of Scratchboard. You will learn how to use basic tools to create a work of art by removing the black surface on special Scratchboard paper. The white surface revealed will be your first step in the art process. Donna will then show how to add color to create a beautiful piece of art using Colored Pencils.

October 3-November 21-CALLIGRAPHY taught by Calligrapher PENNY WHITE
In this fun and creative class you will learn the “Art of Beautiful Writing.” Fall term will be dedicated to a script called Uncial. Uncial is the ancient majuscular book hand characterized by simple, rounded strokes. It apparently originated in the 2nd century AD when the codex form of book developed along with the growing use of parchment and vellum as writing surfaces. October 4-25-WATERCOLOR WEDNESDAYS taught by STEVE KLEIER
This fall I will begin the season with landscape painting. Landscapes offer something for every level of artist. For the beginner there is the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of color mixing and brushwork without a lot of complicated drawing. The intermediate or advanced student will gain more understanding of how to depict the many subjects of the natural world and the subtleties of a scene. Of course we will learn to paint trees, rocks and water but more important is how to integrate them into a meaningful and natural work of art. These first lessons of the year are a great way to establish some good habits. I create a relaxed and interesting atmosphere and have a great knowledge of art history and techniques. Steve has been a commercial and fine artist for more than 30 years and his art expertise is unending. October 5, 12, 19-WATERCOLOR with PEN and INK taught by award winning artist ANGELA WRAHTZ
All levels of watercolor painters are invited to join this class. No experience is needed to be a part of this project-based class with projects provided or you can bring your own. There are lots of demonstrations of techniques, resources and step-by-step instruction. Angie will bring everything you need to complete projects including professional grade paper and paint for use in class. Please bring your own brushes. This “no host” studio is for artists of all mediums. Spend the afternoon in our brightly lit classroom with the benefit of good company and a pleasant place to work. Make a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy our extensive Lending Library and the Enid Joy Mount Gallery for inspiration. Open 1:00-4:00pm every Friday. Free to members. $3/day or $10/month for non-members. No registration required.
October 20-November 24-DRAWING HORSES 101 taught by ELIZABETH ZIMMERMAN
Do you love horses and want to draw these graceful animals? Elizabeth Zimmerman will be leading a 6 week class covering equine anatomy so that you can accurately draw these animals. You will learn the parts of the horse, basic body language, along with focusing on skeletal structure of front legs, back legs, and the head. Elizabeth has been depicting horses in watercolor for 12 years and in pencil many years before that. This class is for beginners who want to learn how to draw horses and for those who would like to brush up on their equine drawing skills. Please bring the following for class: variety of graphite pencils, 16” x 20” or 18” x 24” drawing paper and tracing paper pads, and artists tape. You can bring your own horse photo references.
- Week 1: sketching horses, parts of the horse, and body language
- Week 2: front legs (skeleton/muscles)
- Week 3: back legs (skeleton/muscles)
- Week 4: head (skeleton/muscles)
- Week 5: body (skeleton/muscles)
