FRIDAY OPEN STUDIO
January 6, 13, 20, 27
Time: 1:00-4:00pm every Friday
Cost: Free to members; $3/day or $10/month for non-members.
This “no host” studio is for artists of all mediums. Spend the afternoon in our brightly lit classroom with the benefit of good company and a pleasant place to work. Make a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy our extensive Lending Library and next door gallery for inspiration.

KIDS ART CLASS-LEARNING TO DRAW AND PAINT LIKE A TRUE ARTIST
January 7-February 25
Instructor: MARIE’ SAKAI
Time: Saturday, 10:00-11:00am
Cost: $50*
Learn how to draw and paint like a true Artist! Look at the great masters: Rembrandt and Da Vinci through Impressionism like Van Gogh, Cezanne and then to the Surrealistic artists like Frida Kahlo, and finally the 20th century artists like Lichenstein. Your child will learn how to draw, paint, and collage understanding specific art techniques, color theory, and so much more! They will learn how to draw themselves realistically and look at gestural drawings of Da Vinci in how to draw their hands. This is definitely a class you wouldn’t want to miss as it teaches your child how to see like an artist, observe things in front of them, and then use color and line as a way to define, enhance, and develop their visions as artists! This is a dynamic and educationally fun experience for your children to Ages 6-12.

COLORED PENCIL CLASS
January 9-February 27
Instructor: Invited talented artists
Time: Monday, 9:00-12:00pm
Cost: $50 for 8 weeks.*
Realism, abstraction, whimsy, landscape, portraiture, and wildlife are all favorite subjects of colored pencil students. In these classes you will learn color theory, layering, strokes, use of paper and tools, dry pencil, watercolor pencil and much more. These classes show the student how much fun it is to learn new techniques and stretch your expertise. All levels of pencil pushers welcome. Please sign up for class at least one week ahead. ACRYLICS
January 9-February 13, Monday afternoons, 6 weeks
Instructor: SHIRLEE JOHNSON
Time: 1:00-4:00pm
Cost: $60 for 6 weeks.*
Join accomplished artist SHIRLEE JOHNSON for all levels of painting. Beginning to advanced students welcome. Shirlee will show you how to prepare your canvas for painting and underpainting, for value, lost and found edges, cool and warm colors, composition and glazing, and working with shapes and designs to make the eye move around the painting. Shirlee has an art background from Pierce Jr. College in Woodland Hills, CA where she studied drawing, design and life drawing; Art Master’s School in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she studied color, composition, acrylics, oils, and pastels. CALLIGRAPHY
January 10-February 28
Instructor: PENNY WHITE
Time: Tuesday, 1:15-3:15pm
Cost: $40 for 8 weeks.*
In this class you will learn the ancient art of beautiful handwriting. Penny teaches different styles and techniques, and the use of a variety of pens and papers. Winter term will focus on Italic Variations. Calligraphy can be used for invitations, Christmas cards, letter writing, posters, poetry, and countless other things where a personal touch is needed. The last part of each class will be spent having a cup of tea and exchanging ideas. All levels welcome. Supply list.

WATERCOLOR CLASS-SOME REVIEW, SOME NEW
January 12-February 16
Instructor: NANCY ERICKSEN WARD (formerly Nancy Vittone Eriksen)
Time: Thursdays 1pm.-4pm
Cost: 6 weeks for $50*
Individualized instruction for all levels, “paint along” style instructions for beginners, with pre- drawn sketches so the beginning student can concentrate on painting rather than drawing. Nancy teaches transparent watercolor techniques, with emphasis on basic design, composition and skill building in use of the medium. This is a fun class with only the gentlest critiques and a very supportive instruction style. Students choose one of several projects ranging from traditional approach in landscape, stylized florals (like the one shown), wildlife, birds and painting from your own photos. Supply list.

WATER COLOR WORKSHOP
January 21
Instructor: DEANNA WHITE
Time: Saturday, 11:30-4:30pm
Cost: $45*
Spend the day doing a step-by-step watercolor painting of Tulips or a Pear Trio, depending on your level of painting experience. We will use spattering, “wet on wet”, colored pencil and texture techniques. For the Pears option, you may add a patterned “wallpaper” background using stencil or stamping techniques. Instructor will provide gesso, stamps, and misc. Bring a lunch and have a classroom picnic. Supply list.

This brand new carving year starts with “No-See-Ems” which is a head study. To see Dave’s unique carved heads, visit Gallery K at Keizer Art Association. All are different, unique and lovable. Bring a lunch and make yourself a cup of coffee or tea in the kitchenette in the classroom. Carve the day away with a relaxed group of woodcarvers. No registration necessary.
