Each October the Keizer Art Association Gallery hosts one of its most unique exhibitions of the year—the Capitol Woodcarvers “Art Found in Wood” show.
This unique and inspiring exhibition brings together some of Oregon’s most accomplished wood artists and offers visitors the opportunity to experience the remarkable versatility and beauty of woodcarving.
Capitol Woodcarvers is a group of talented artists proficient in woodcarving and pyrography. Most of these artists are from the Salem/Keizer area and meet regularly at KAA to share and exchange ideas, encourage one another’s growth, and explore new techniques and creative approaches. While many members are award-winning, both locally and nationally, the club welcomes carvers at all levels who are committed to learning and artistic growth.
The Capitol Woodcarvers show, which happens every October, has become the largest and most prestigious woodcarving art show hosted by Salem Capitol Woodcarvers. This year’s show will feature more than 20 wood artists displaying more than fifty original carvings. Visitors will discover an impressive range of styles and subjects, from realistic, caricature, pyrography, whimsical, relief, and other works that push the boundaries of wood art. The “Art Found in Wood” exhibition runs from October 1 to November 3.
Wood carving requires both technical skill and creative vision. The works on display reveal the many possibilities of the medium and the unique artistic vision of the carvers who create them. Some of participants in the show, like Terry Moss, are well recognized artists at the national level.
This year’s exhibition was juried by the KAA Board, all of whom are excellent artists who will apply their artistic background and knowledge when awarding ribbons to deserving entries. Awards recognize outstanding achievement among participating carvers.
The Art Found in Wood exhibition will be on display throughout the month of October at the Keizer Art Association Gallery, located on the second floor of the Keizer Cultural Center at 980 Chemawa Road NE in Keizer. Convenient parking and elevator access make the gallery easy to visit.
Whether you are an art enthusiast, an aspiring artist in any medium, or simply looking for an enjoyable cultural experience, the Art Found in Wood Show offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the beauty of wood carving and the vital role the arts play in building community. We invite you to join us in Keizer this October and experience one of the region’s premier woodcarving exhibitions.
