It is Keizer Art Association's privilege and distinct pleasure to honor John DeJarnatt as our Artist of the month. John is an accomplished and recognized artist having won several awards for his outstanding art.

Artist's Statement

I am a photographer who tries to capture whatever happens to cross my viewfinder during my journey through life. While I tend to shoot landscapes more often, I consider all areas of photography interesting subjects. I’ve been a photography judge for KAA as well as the Oregon State Fair.

I was born in Colorado but grew up in Washington. I’ve lived in Oregon for over 30 years. I’ve had a camera in my hand since I was 8 years old. I am married and have two grown children, as well as two large cats.

I attended Central Washington University where I received a BA in Recreation along with a minor in Art, mostly focused on photography and film making. I also aIended Humboldt State University, receiving a Multiple Subjects Certificate in Elementary Education. After working in the Recreation field for 10 years, I became an elementary teacher where I taught a variety of grades for 24 years. I’ve worked as a swimming coach off and on for 37 years as well.

I enjoy traveling, photography, swimming, and providing a warm body for my cats to sleep on.
